Erin and I recently enjoyed a fabulous week of whitewater kayaking in the
Great Smoky Mountains. Each day we spent six or more hours on the water, and needless to say, it was another physically demanding trip. Over the week we received instruction on whitewater skills and techniques. We used lake sessions to work on Eskimo rolls and rescue skills, before running rivers and putting those skills into practice.
The progression from lake to river was fast. More than once I found myself riding the rapids upside down in my boat before being rescued. The week culminated on Thursday when we ran an 8 mile section of the
Nantahala River, including the class III Nantahala Falls.
Here's Erin in action:

Now we can't wait for our next whitewater adventure.

Hey that's a great post and another great MacNick adventure...but I'm left wanting more. Details! Surely Dan took some photos? More more more!
I sense you 2 might aspire to something other than just being passengers in a raft on the GC trip? That would be great to see you both in kayaks! Keep it up!
Andy, there should be more posts from this trip coming soon. We'd love to do some kayaking on the GC trip. That would be awesome!
Yep! More details on the way! We are waiting for the very nice couple with the waterproof camera to send us some photos and video. In the meantime I am researching waterproof, shatterproof, adventure proof digital cameras for our next adventure :-)
